Nuuk
Nordic Choir -
Nordisk Koncertkor, Nuuk, - was created, when Nordic Women's Choir, Nuuk,
decided to become a choir of mixed voices. It has established a position for
itself as a concert choir in Greenland, performing classic choral music at a
semi-professional level with professional musicians and soloists. In doing
this, the choir is meeting a demand for this type of concerts, at the same time
encouraging choir singing, improving the conditions for choral activities and
strengthening the collaboration of Nuuk Nordic Choir with the musical
environment in Nuuk, including Nuuk Music School. In this connexion the
visiting professional musicians give inspirational courses and so stimulate and
support the local musical environment.

Till now
Nuuk Nordic Choir has accomplished five concert projects:
Handel:
Messiah, 2004
Mozart:
Requiem, 2005
Nordic
Notes (Toner i Norden), a programme of contemporary Nordic choral music, May
2006
Maria Music
by Anders Öhrwall, November 2006
Schubert: Mass in
G, April 2007
"Bach's Christmas" by H. Colding-Jørgensen, November 2007
All have
been broadcast either partly or in full, by KNR, Kalaallit Nunaata Radioa, the
Greenland radio company. Nordic Notes was also broadcast by DR, Danmarks Radio,
the Danish state radio.

Bente Colding-Jørgensen, the conductor, was educated at The
Royal Danish Academy of Music, where she is now teaching and conducting the
Childrens Choir. More information at www.bentecj.dk
From August
2007 Bente Colding-Jørgensen lives in Denmark, but twice during the project
preparations she came to Nuuk to rehearse with the choir. Jim Milne is in
charge of the common rehearsals, one of the choir members acting as a choir
master.
