Joakim
Dam Thomsen, Oboe

Saw 14 years old the Rings of Saturn and was seized by
a profound fascination of the mysteries of the Universe. After this followed a
brief and intense time as an amateur astonomer.
Joakim is an elegantier, making music with his heart. He
can be very expressive in music, and is also able to characterize the music in words.
Educated at The Royal Danish Academy of Music,
studying with professor Jorgen Hammergaard and Bjorn Carl Nielsen. Graduated as
a soloist from The Royal Academy of Music, London. Has been honored by the
Jacob Gade Prize and the Victor Borge Music Prize.
He has been a member of the EU Youth Orchestra,
conducted by Claudio Abbado and Zubin Mehta, among others. Also, as a member of
European Wind Soloists, London, he has given concerts in many European
countries and in the Far East.
Joakim was oboist in the DR Radio Sympony Orchestra, but
is now 1. solo oboist in The Royal Danish Orchestra, where he has been playing
since 1991.
